Now, let’s begin with the Efficient Summary of

“The Way To Wealth”.

By ~ Benjamin Franklin.

->Benjamin Franklin begins the essay “The Way To Wealth” by portraying that nothing gives an author so great pleasure, as to find his work respectfully quoted by other learned authors. The author was also very happy as he had enjoyed that pleasure of being famous due to his great writing’s work. Initially the Almanac (Hand Book) of eminent(great) authors used to be publish annually but then, few of them were becoming so famous that they use to be in market for more then quarter of the century. So, due to this reason, all the authors had become very careful while appreciating other authors and so there occurs the great deficiency in praise of author ‘Benjamin Franklin’.

->Benjamin Franklin use to write the Great Worthy Lines in his Almanac by using name of ‘Poor Richard’. Author describes that the moment that satisfies him a lot are those moments when he use to hear the people repeating his adages without knowing him personally by saying that Poor Richard Says that…… & so on.

->After that, the author shares an incident which satisfied him a lot. The incident begins as the author were with his horse and he saw a large number of people that were gathered at Vendue of Merchant Goods which was going to be start within an hour. Meanwhile the great gathering of people at Vendue (a public sale) started chatting on the badness of their time & one of the person among crowd asked an old man named FATHER ABRAHAM about his opinion on heavy taxes that were ruining their life and also he asked Father Abraham to advise them on how can they be able to pay such heavy taxes.

->After listening to the question Father Abraham replied in positive manner which startled everyone. He said that “The Government Tax can be paid easily but we have many other taxes which indirectly give pain to everyone”. Further he added that “We are taxed twice as much by our idleness, three times as much by our pride & four times as much by our foolishness & from these taxes no Commissioners can deliver us a comfort zone by allowing reduction in such taxes.”

STOP BEING AN IDLE PERSON

->Father continued by saying that “People feel very hard as Government Tax it’s people one tenth part of their time, that they invest being an Employee at Office/Company. But what about an Idleness in which people invest a lot but eventually result to nothing”. Thus by saying these lines Father Abraham troll laziness very much rather than supporting people against high taxes. Thus Father says that “Poor Richard says that ‘Sleeping fox catches no poultry and that there will be sleeping enough in the grave’ ; ‘Sloth (Laziness) makes all things difficult, but Industry all easy. Also, Laziness travels so slowly that Poverty soon overtakes him’.”

BE AN INDUSTRIOUS PERSON

->After starting such an impressive conversation with the crowd; Father Abraham then starts explaining the usefulness of being Industrious rather than being lazy person by including Poor Richard’s powerful lines. Father says that “He that lives upon hope will die fasting. There are no gains, without pains.” He further adds that if we are industrious we shall never starve because ‘At the Working Man’s house hunger looks in but dares not enter.’ The whole surrounded crowd was just staring at Father & he continues by saying that “Plough deep, while sluggards (stupid) sleep and you shall have corn to sell & to keep.” Further he advises the people to work on particular day rather than leaving on another day because he believes that we should work while it’s called today for you know not how much you may be hindered tomorrow. Also he says that if there is any work that you want to do tomorrow do it today because ‘one today is worth of two tomorrows.’  Then Father Abraham pauses the conversation for a while by saying that perhaps you might be weak handed but stick to it steadily & definitely you will see great effects.

MUST A MAN AFFORD HIMSELF NO LEISURE?

->Listening to the powerful conversation of Father Abraham with crowd someone uttered a question from crowd & asked that: “Must a man afford himself no leisure?” Listening to the question, Father replied that “Plan your day in such a manner that first of all you should give importance to your work rather than on other stuffs and after doing your work happily & properly you can spend your remaining time in leisure”. In fact after that Father asked to crowd that: “Just think Which stuff will provide you more comfort: BEING LAZY or ENJOYING LEISURE AFTER DOING ALL OF YOUR IMPORTANT WORK ?”

INDUSTRIOUS MASTERS – BE LITTLE BIT CAREFUL
->‘The eye of a master will do more works than both his hands’; ’Not to oversee workmen is to leave them your purse open’; ‘A little neglect may breed great mischief.’ Revising the amazing quotes of Poor Richard, Father Abraham guides the industry’s headmaster to have some look upon their workmen because he believes that trusting too much on others can ruin many. Also, Father advise the masters to be more attentive to their own’s business and further he adds that “To make our industry more successful we must add the habit of Frugality (Avoiding Unnecessary Expenditure) in ourselves.” After that Father Abraham advises everyone by saying Poor Richard’s quote that: “Women and Wine, Game and Deceit. Make the Wealth small & the wants great.” In short Father outlines that if we will stop our expensive Follies then gradually we will start decreasing the complaining of Hard Times & Heavy Taxes.

PURCHASE WHEN IT’S NECESSARY
->Father Abraham addresses the people and acknowledge that: “All you people gathered at this Vendue for Fineries & Knickknacks and call them goods but if you don’t take care of that goods or don’t use that goods at right time they might prove to be evil to some of you.” Also he adds that “Many People just for the sake of show-off purchases expensive Fineries (Ornaments / Decorative) and starve with a Hungry Belly. Even some people purchase such goods which are not even necessary for their life but still people purchase them just to look pretty and this habit of show-off addict some people in such a manner that they start borrowing money from other people and apparently they seem to be stylish but in real they turn off from Stylish to Poor. So, control your desires and fulfil your desire by consulting your Purse because ‘Tis Easier to suppress the first desire than to satisfy all that follow It.’ Continuing with his extraordinary conversation Father said that: “ ‘Pride breakfasted with plenty, dined with Poverty and Supped with Infamy.’ Why we should do pride of appearance which is risked so much & suffered so much. It can’t promote health nor ease pain, it makes no increase of merit in person it only creates envy, it hastens misfortune.”
->Father continued his great conversation by saying that “What a madness it would be if you run in debt due to these superfluities. Even at sales we are offered 6 months’ credit & perhaps has induced some of us to attend it, because we cannot spare the ready money and hope now to be fine without it. But, ah, think what you do when you run in debt; what will happen if you would be unable to pay your debt during the given time period; you would be ashamed in front of your creditor, you will say lies. But Remember, Creditors have better memories than Debtors. Through all this debts, the borrower becomes slave to lender. So, preserve your freedom, maintain your Independency, be industrious, be free.”
->“At present you may think that I can bear a little superfluous without any problem but remember that: ‘For Age and Want, Save while you may; No Morning Sun lasts a whole Day’ .”

->After speaking such an awesome lines Father Abraham concludes that: “Don’t be too much of frugal & prudence, be humble, be charitable person & help those who are in need.”

->Thus, the Old Gentleman ended his harangue (argumentative public speech) & everyone present over there were shinning with the healthy knowledge of wealth that Father Abraham gave to them & Thus, the author Benjamin Franklin found the good man who had thoroughly studied his almanacs & digested all he had dropped on these topics during course of 5 – 25 years. And hence, author also wishes that readers must follow above stated guidelines and he assures that all his followers will definitely gain high profit in their Life.
